As the Premier League enters the middle of September the league is starting to take shape with Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City occupying the top three places in the league table. Wins for all three sides last time out put distance between themselves and the likes of Tottenham (who lost to Liverpool) and Watford (who were pipped by Manchester United). Elsewhere, Manuel Pellegrini picked up his first win as West Ham manager, at the expense of Marco Silva who experienced his first loss as Everton boss and Burnley plummeted to the foot of the table following an abject display and defeat at the impressive Wolves.
Here are our picks for the sixth round of fixtures in the Premier League:
12.30 Fulham vs Watford – Craven Cottage
The sixth week of the Premier League kicks off with an intriguing London Derby between two sides that have enjoyed solid starts to their respective league seasons. Fulham have shown flashes of brilliance on their return to the top-flight without necessarily getting the results their performances have deserved whilst Watford are flying high in the top 4 – having won 4 and lost one of their opening 5 games. The Cottagers displayed their lack of Premier League awareness last weekend at Manchester City – going down 3-0 in a relatively abject display. Prior to that however, they had impressed in most of their games – despite not always getting the results their performances have deserved and they currently sit 15th in the league table. Watford’s unbeaten run came to an end against Manchester United last time out in what was a very entertaining encounter at Vicarage Road. The Hornets currently sit 4th in the table, with 12 points and they will be hoping to get back to winning ways as quickly as possible here. With two forward thinking managers facing off in what promises to be a fascinating tactical battle, goals look on the menu between two sides that prioritise attacking over defending.
Betting tip: The match to finish as a draw and both teams to score ($4)
15.00 Burnley vs Bournemouth – Turf Moor
Struggling Burnleywelcome former manager Eddie Howe and his in-form Bournemouth side to Turf Moor in what has the makings of a crucial game for Sean Dyche’s men. With their European exploits ending last month, the Clarets have struggled to replicate the incredible run of form that propelled them to 7th in the Premier League last season whilst Bournemouth have been in incredible form this season – underlined by their 4-2 win over Leicester City last time out.The Clarets have endured a tough run through August and September and despite Joe Hart’s heroics in goal – ultimately went down 1-0 to Wolves last time out. Sean Dyche has galvanised the side in recent years and this could be his toughest job yet with his side currently bottom of the league – with 1 point from their opening 5 games. The Cherries sit 5th in the Premier League as Eddie Howe continues to impress as the man at the helm who have collected 10 points already this term. They were lethal last time out against Leicester – going 4-0 up – before conceding two late goals in what was otherwise a perfect performance from a side that look to be growing in confidence week in, week out.Despite their much maligned struggles this term, Burnley are a resolute outfit and will have to be at their best to trouble in-form Bournemouth but these two look very evenly matched on paper and could cancel each other out in a score draw.
Betting tip: The match to finish as a draw and both teams to score ($4.15)
15.00 Cardiff City vs Manchester City – Cardiff City Stadium
Cardiff City ($26)
Manchester City ($1.17)
David welcomes Goliath on Saturday as Pep Guardiola’s swashbuckling Manchester City travel to Neil Warnock’s combative Cardiff City in what promises to be an epic encounter in the Welsh capital. Manchester City have picked up 13 points from a possible 15 and look to have their eyes firmly fixed on retaining the Premier League title whilst Cardiff have found life tough on their return to the top flight so far. Cardiff have suffered a torrid start to life in the Premier League under Neil Warnock and are winless in their opening 5 games – registering 2 points. They are in the midst of a tricky run of games exemplified by their consecutive fixtures against Arsenal, Chelsea and now reigning champions Manchester City. With back to back home wins against Newcastle and Fulham, Manchester City look back to somewhere near their best as they look to defend the Premier League title for the first time. The introduction of Champions League football could begin to put pressure on Pep Guardiola’s squad but his extensive investment should see him through most injury concerns. Cardiff won’t be targeting games such as these as part of their survival bid but the Bluebirds will want to push Manchester City all the way but Pep and his team should be more than capable of picking up the win here.
Betting tip: Manchester City to win the match and both teams to score ($3.05)
Manchester City to win 3-1
15.00 Crystal Palace vs Newcastle United – Selhurst Park
Crystal Palace ($2)
Newcastle United ($4.3)
The need for points on the board is looming large for Rafa Benitez’s Newcastle United who are winless in their opening 5 games as they travel to Roy Hodgson’s Crystal Palace in what looks to be a fascinating encounter. Palace themselves returned to winning ways last time out at the expense of Huddersfield and the Eagles will be hoping that will be a catalyst for their season. Palace returned to winning ways last time out with a solid 1-0 win at Huddersfield Town – ending a three match losing streak in the Premier League. 6 points from their opening 5 games is a solid return but Roy Hodgson will be hoping his side can kick on from their reasonable start to the season. The Toon have endured a rotten start to the season and sit in 19th place with only 1 point collected from their opening 5 matches. Rafa Benitez will point to the fixture list as the biggest reason for his side’s poor return so far and he’ll be hoping to see things improve in East London. Newcastle United desperately need to start picking up points and will trouble Crystal Palace but the Eagles are a good side and without a home win as yet this season, will be eager to get a win on the board to appease their home fans.
Betting tip: Crystal Palace to win the match and both teams to score ($4.5)
Crystal Palace to win 2-1
15.00 Leicester City vs Huddersfield Town – King Power Stadium
Leicester City ($1.62)
Huddersfield Town ($6)
Claude Puel’s Leicester City will be looking to bounce back from their chastening defeat at the hands of Bournemouth last time out as they welcome struggling Huddersfield Town to the East Midlands. The Terriers are yet to win in the Premier League this season and look all set for a season of relegation scrapping. Back to back defeats have ramped the pressure up on Claude Puel somewhat with the Foxes only having picked up 6 points from their opening 5 games. The manner of their 4-2 defeat to Bournemouth last time out will concern the Foxes faithful who will be hoping to see an improvement at home here. The problems are mounting for David Wagner’s men who have yet to win so far this season and have only scored 2 goals and picked up 2 points from their opening 5 matches. Despite dominating the play for long periods against Crystal Palace last time out, they ultimately came up short and need to start picking up points quickly. Huddersfield look to be in for a very difficult season and Leicester, who will be reeling from their defeat at Bournemouth, should bounce back with a comfortable home win here.
Betting tip: Leicester City to win the match to nil($2.48)
Leicester City to win 2-0
15.00 Liverpool vs Southampton – Anfield
High-flying Liverpool welcome Southampton to Anfield in what should be an exciting game – with plenty of big name players facing off against their former clubs. The Reds have been in scintillating form, epitomised by their back to back wins over Tottenham and Paris Saint-Germain and the feeling of optimism is swarming the club currently whilst Southampton have enjoyed a solid start to the season under Mark Hughes. The dream start to the season has continued for Liverpool who survived late wobbles against Tottenham and PSG to cement their 100% start to the season in all competitions. Jurgen Klopp looks to have instilled real belief in his players and the growing feeling that this is their year is sweeping the red half of Merseyside. The Saints are in the midst of a 3 game unbeaten streak in all competitions but will be left rueing the concession of a two goal lead against Brighton last time out. Currently sat in 13th place, with 6 points, Mark Hughes will be aiming to keep the Saints in the mid-table area all season if possible. Southampton are an experienced side that won’t roll over for Liverpool but the reds have been in terrific form this season and should pick up all three points comfortably here.
Betting tip: Liverpool to win the match to nil ($1.94)
Liverpool to win 3-0
15.00 Manchester United vs Wolves – Old Trafford
Manchester United ($1.63)
Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United welcome the impressive Wolves to Old Trafford in what promises to be an intriguing clash between two exciting sides and two fiery Portuguese managers. Nuno Esporito Santo has enjoyed an impressive start to Premier League football as his side look to be fully adapting to the rigours of Premier League life whilst Manchester United have improved in recent weeks – winning back to back Premier League away games. Back to back wins over Burnley and Watford on the road look to have eased the pressure on Jose Mourinho somewhat – for the time being at least. The Red Devils are 6 points off the pace in the Premier League but with over 30 games to play, will be confident of clawing back the deficit over the course of the campaign. With 8 points from their opening 5 games, Wolves look to be coping with Premier League life very well and they sit 9th in the league table. Their 1-0 win over Burnley saw them have 30 shots on goal and their attacking prowess looks to have the capacity to trouble many teams this season. Wolves will take the game to United and will fancy their chances but the Red Devils, willed on by home support should have more than enough here.
Betting tip: Manchester United to win the match and both teams to score ($3.5)
Manchester United to win 3-1
17.30 Brighton vs Tottenham – AMEX Stadium
Tottenham will be hoping to bounce back from back to back defeats domestically and in Europe as they travel to Brighton in search of crucial Premier League points. Brighton showed incredible resolve to recover from two goals down at South coast rivals Southampton last time out and their commitment to the cause looks to be holding them in good stead this season. With 5 points from their opening 5 games, the Seagulls currently sit 14th in the Premier League and safety looks to be their rightful priority once again this season. They have shown incredible steel in their last two games to recover from 2-0 down twice and draw with Fulham and Southampton. Tottenham have endured a difficult period – losing their last 2 Premier League games at Watford and at home to Liverpool before losing to Inter Milan in their opening Champions League game. Mauricio Pochettino’s men currently sit 6th in the table and will need to address their slide quickly if they are to get back into Champions League contention this season. This should be a highly entertaining fixture between two attack-minded sides but ultimately, Tottenham should have too much fire power for Brighton and should clinch all three points.
Betting tip: Tottenham to win the match and both teams to score ($3.5)
Tottenham to win 2-1
13.30 West Ham United vs Chelsea – London Olympic Stadium
West Ham United ($6.5)
Following their first win of the season last time out at Everton, West Ham welcome top of the table Chelsea to the London Olympic Stadium in what promises to be a highly entertaining London Derby. Manuel Pellegrini’s men picked up their first win (and points) of the season in impressive style at Everton a week ago whilst Chelsea will be looking to keep their impressive domestic run going. The Hammers bounced back from an underwhelming start to the season in impressive fashion – beating much fancied Everton 3-1 at Goodison Park to move off the bottom of the table. Manuel Pellegrini has a wealth of options at his disposal and rotation was the key last time out with his 6 changes to the starting XI seemingly doing the trick. Chelsea have enjoyed the perfect start to the season – winning all 5 of their opening matches and they are sitting pretty at the top of the table. Maurizio Sarri looks to be enjoying life in English football and the Italian’s exciting brand of football seems to bringing instant rewards. Chelsea look to be one of the contenders for the Premier League this season and games such as this they will need to negotiate successfully if they are to pick up the trophy in May.
Betting tip: Chelsea to win the match and both teams to score ($3.75)
Chelsea to win 2-1
16.00 Arsenal vs Everton – Emirates Stadium
The final fixture of the Premier League weekend promises to be a belter as Unai Emery’s in-form Arsenal take on Marco Silva’s Everton in what is a battle of two of the most exciting managerial talents in the Premier League. Arsenal bounced back well from defeats in their first two games – to win their last 3 whilst Everton lost their unbeaten record at the hands of West Ham last time out. The Gunners have bounced back well from losing their first two games – winning the next three and propelling themselves to 7thin the Premier League. They are yet to keep a clean sheet this season however, something Unai Emery will be undoubtedly looking to address. Everton endured their first defeat of the season at the hands of West Ham last time out and Marco Silva will be seeking a response from his players here. The Toffees currently sit 10thin the Premier League and will hoping to kick on as the season progresses. With both sides harbouring ambitions of playing European football this season, this could be a very entertaining game but Arsenal – with home support – should get the job done in here in what promises to be an entertaining game.
Betting tip: Arsenal to win the match and both teams to score ($2.7)
Arsenal to win 3-1
